My name is Alan O'Shea and I have the privilege of being the CO of this fine vessel. I am from Dublin but live in Northern Ireland. I love all things Trek and sci-fi. Favourite sci-fi shows, other than 'Star Trek', would be 'Battlestar Galactica', both 80s and new version, 'V' both 80s and new version, 'Terra Nova', 'Independence Day', and of course 'Star Wars'.

Favourite Trek moment: So many to choose. From listening to the opening credits of the movie 'Star Trek: First Contact' as this was our church entrance music at our wedding; to when Worf departs the Enterprise in 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' 'Birthright' Part II to a guard of honour from his shipmates; to Dr Crusher taking command of the Enterprise in 'Descent' Part I and II; to Captain Sisko retaking Deep Space Nine from the Jem'Hadar.

Favourite Character: Terry Farrell as Jadzia Dax.

I have been a Star Trek and general sci-fi fan for as long as I can remember, from when I was young reading the likes of EE Doc Smith's classic 'Skylark' and 'Lensmen' series to Frank Herbert's 'Dune' and Asimov's 'Foundation' trilogy and many others after that. I was also an avid reader of 2000AD a superb sci-fi based comic way ahead of its time.

Among the sci-fi shows I loved back then would have been 'Space 1999', 'Blakes 7' and the totally weird and wonderful 'Sapphire and Steel' ... all highly recommended for anyone who may not have seen these shows made in the 70s and 80s.

Then of course 'Star Trek - The Next Generation' came along and it was awesome following that as it aired for the first time ... and lots of great stuff followed ... standouts for me being 'Space Above and Beyond', 'Battlestar Galactica' and. greatest of them all. 'Babylon 5'.

I love attending conventions and try to get a few in every year, by this I don't mean Comic-Con style events but rather proper cons with guests. talks and parties - a proper weekend con. If you have only ever done Comic-Con style events then you haven't really done a convention at all! I am very much enjoying my role with the USS Cuchulain and hope to continue to help it to grow and become a great way to meet likeminded people to make friends with and enjoy our mutual interests.

Outside of the genre stuff, I am a big tennis fan and played quite a bit back in the day. I love to travel and enjoy reading and gaming on my Xbox.

Anyway I welcome you to the USS Cuchulain and hope to see you out there.
